Prof. Süleyman TOLUN

He graduated from the Aeronautical Engineering Department of the Istanbul Technical University’s Mechanical Engineering Faculty in 1971 as a dipl. engineer. Same year he got an assistant researcher position at the same faculty. After his military service he had a year of leave to Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio as an adjunct researcher in 1975. Completed his ph. d. study on Aircraft Structures in 1980 at the Mechanical Engineering faculty of ITU. He was then employed as an assistant professor at the newly founded Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics in between 1984-87. He got the associate professor degree in 1986 and in 1992 served as professor at the same faculty. In 1989-1990 he visited Ecole Nationale Superieure de l’Aeronautique et de l’Espace, Toulouse, France with a French government scholarship. In 2007 he had been at Kahramanmaras S. University for a sabbatical leave. He then served as the director of Science and Engineering Institute and later as the dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Then in 2011 he is assigned temporarily as a professor at Ondokuz Mayis University and then as the director of Civil Aviation School same year. In 2012 August he is assigned as the dean of the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics and served until October 2014. Now he is working as the dean of the Aeronautics & Astronautics Faculty of the Girne University at Northern Cyprus. His interests are aircraft design, unmanned aerial vehicles, light weight structures, wind turbines and rotorcraft design.
